Meet the Master Instructors Behind Storm Krav Maga
Introducing AJ Surian, our esteemed Lead Instructor from Long Island, New York, and the first fully certified TrueKrav Maga instructor in the United States. With a career spanning over two decades in high-stakes law enforcement, personal protection, and tactical training, AJ brings unmatched real-world experience to every class he leads.
AJ is a retired NYPD detective whose distinguished service includes assignments in Patrol, Narcotics, Undercover Operations, and membership in the elite Emergency Service Unit (ESU)—New York City's full-time SWAT and Technical Rescue team. Notably, ESU is the only tactical unit in the world assigned to U.S. Presidential security during the United Nations General Assembly. AJ has served on personal protection details for Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama, as well as numerous U.S. and foreign dignitaries.
Throughout his law enforcement career, AJ has conducted over 1,000 dynamic and stealth forced entries to apprehend felons and both foreign and domestic terrorists on American soil. His experience also includes undercover work in anti-gang and narcotics operations and high-level security for clients such as Goldman Sachs VIPs and Christie’s Auction House.
In addition to his law enforcement background, AJ has trained extensively with Tier 1 military operators, including U.S. Army Delta Force, Navy SEALs, Green Berets, and Israeli Special Forces. He is a certified NRA Firearms Instructor and holds multiple black belts in Krav Maga, American Jujitsu, Japanese Jujutsu, Judo, and Kenpo.
Currently, AJ continues to serve his country through his work with the Department of Homeland Security. His lifelong dedication to self-defense, tactical excellence, and elite-level instruction makes him a cornerstone of our academy and a true authority in personal protection training.
